Yes or no. Is salt ok for you?

Yes or no. Is salt ok for you?

The science on salt is polarized, slightly more than half of papers support the idea that salt is bad for your health

Ask any two people "is salt good or bad?" and you'll probably get two different answers.

The discussion seems to have been going on for ages and we still do not appear to have a definitive answer. Recently a review of research done at the Columbia University's Mailman School of Public Health tried to address this in an analysis of scientific reports and comments on the health effects of a salty diet and came up with almost an even split opinion.

The new article in the International Journal of Epidemiology reviewed 269 academic reports published between 1979 and 2014 and while there appears to be an increase in interest in this topic ther appears  to be no emerging consensus.

Over the years it has been suggested that there is a link between reduced sodium intake and lower rates of heart disease, stroke, and death, and although it appears not to have been substantially proven one way or the other, the World Health Organization guidelines recommends  limiting salt intake.

If you believe that your salt consumption may be an issues for you, we always recommend that you consult either a qualified Dietitian or your health care professional!
