Fitness trackers reveal the damaging pitfalls of the modern approach to self-improvement

In an interesting article in Quartz, which you can read here in full, they make the assertion that "wearable fitness trackers, or wearables, which are designed to help people get more exercise and make healthier food choice... can take a dark turn if it (the technology) ends up enabling an unhealthy preoccupation with fitness and weight."

Possibly the most important message from the article is that consumers need to realise that "the exercise and calorie goals offered by fitness trackers are only suggestions." These bits of technology don't and can't give the user a real and in-depth understanding of their health.
