4 more surprising stretching benefits
that can possibly lower mortality
In an article on WebMD written by Lou Schuler, we can learn about a couple of studies, one from 2020 and the other from 2023 that stretching is linked to several health benefits that you might not expect.
These highlighted benefits include an increase in strength, a decrease in arterial stiffness, improved performance - as long as you do it correctly, and fewer injuries.
Ultimately, if stretching can indeed reduce mortality risk, it's probably because of interconnected pathways, rather than any single mechanism.
Most obviously, stretching makes you more flexible, which makes movement easier, improves balance, and reduces the risk of falls and other types of injuries. It can also lead to small improvements in strength. Less obviously, stretching improves several things that involve your heart and blood vessels, including circulation.
